APEX NEURO featured in news for life-changing FND therapy
Angel Harrison, 23, has Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), a condition where people experience neurological symptoms like weakness, movement problems, seizures, or sensory issues. One seizure left the former support worker unable to walk, with doctors initially mistaking her condition for a stroke. After having to give up her job, Angel says she felt isolated from her friends and the world. She said: “It makes you feel like you’re going insane… people say it’s all in your head. I masked it for so long, I didn’t tell anyone.”

Her friend, Zoe Godden, decided to take on the challenge of walking from Hemel Hempstead to Manchester to raise money for Angel to go to Macclesfield’s Apex Neuro, a rehabilitation centre specialising in neurological conditions. Thanks to the generous donations, Angel had intensive therapy at the facility, and within days, she was walking again.

In the weeks before her stint at the centre, Angel had also lost the ability to talk: “I actually think that was probably worse than the walking, to be honest, because I'm very communicative.” Apex Neuro helped her to manage her symptoms by using electrical and laser therapy, and by the end of the third day, she was walking unaided.
Zoe said: “Angel’s first steps since receiving treatment at Apex Neuro have become a defining moment for everyone who has supported her. Her progress is the greatest gift of this holiday season and a powerful reminder of why this journey mattered from the beginning.
“I would like to take this moment to again thank everyone for their donations, because of you, my friend is now walking again, something that, for a long time, Angel never thought would be possible. Seeing Angel smile and walking was always what this was about. Kindness costs nothing.” While Angel is getting ready to enjoy Christmas with her family, she also wants to make sure others with sufferers have access to support by using the rest of her donations to start a FND group for others.
Angel, whose condition is incurable, is also writing to Parliament as part of her efforts for better support for people with FND.
