Functional Neurological Disorder: learning to use the stairs
Functional Neurological Disorder: learning to use the stairs
Rachel has shared some of her FND journey including walking with a crutch to climbing rocks on the beach unaided with her children 🫶🏼 One of the most common things we work on after building improved walking ability is learning to safely and confidently use the stairs again.
Notice all of this work is without any support from the electrical devices, this is all Rachel.

Multiple Sclerosis: Building Strength
Multiple Sclerosis: Building Strength
After improving the ability to contract and control the muscles in the clinic, we transition into the gym to teach Rhyiza the machines and techniques to build muscle and strength at home. Our approach is like a relay race. We do the ‘heavy lifting’ to start the race - getting the brain and body to communicate more effectively. At a certain point, we can pass the baton to the client to build on this work at home (usually via our Remote

Learning to stand: Multiple Sclerosis (progress update)
Judy previously achieved standing independently for the first time (see her excitement on the first clip!) Now the foundations are built, Luke and Judy progress to no help from the electricity - this is all Judy’s body!
We don’t want our clients to depend on the devices we use. They act as a tool to achieve a better foundation (improving the communication between the brain and body) but at a certain point we transition to working without help.

Functional Neurological Disorder: Real-World Rehabilitation "I can't remember the last time I walked to a shop"
Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) APEX NEURO real-world rehabilitation - “I cant remember the last time I walked to the shop”
3 days together and Luke and Caroline were able to progress not just to walking outside (taking on all the external stimulus such as the cold which previously caused Caroline to convulse) but to walk together to the shop which was a monumental achievement in just a few days work.
We are doing this all without any devices, just through coaching.

But here at Apex Neuro everything is just a breath of fresh air their knowledge, their willingness to keep learning with you, their perseverance, care, determination, positivity and expertise has been everything. My child has felt heard, she feels like people really care.

Motor Neurone Disease: Hand & Finger Movement
Motor Neurone Disease: Hand & Fingers | Danny's MND primarily affects his upper limbs, especially his hands and fingers. As a Dad to young children, Danny's fingers dexterity including being able to pinch and control his fingers in fine motor movements is important in his day to day life (changing nappies!) so Danny and Laura spent some time together working on improving this.

Functional Neurological Disorder: regaining control over tremors
Functional Neurological Disorder: Tremors and involuntary movements are some of the most common FND symptoms we work with - these vary greatly in their presentation from person to person and often require deep investigation to understand the mechanisms driving them.
Regaining control over tremors can be key to regaining independent movement, often our clients find it difficult to impossible to walk as tremors can affect balance, gait and sometimes link to seizures.

Multiple Sclerosis: Overcoming foot drop & running again with MS
Multiple Sclerosis: overcoming foot drop & running again with MS. Foot drop is one of the most common symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) we work with. Unlike many aids for foot drop, our clients often progress to no longer needing the device whereas many other options are worn permanently. By improving the control over the muscle, at a certain point the device is no longer needed. For Bec, this took us just a few days (you can watch her progress on our social media pages).

Multiple Sclerosis: Building Strength
Our approach goes beyond just the work in the clinic, particularly when it comes to degenerative conditions like Multiple Sclerosis.
Building muscle and strength is a substantial goal for many of our clients, many of them have never used a gym before, or aren’t familiar with how to train to build strength and muscle. Part of our approach is to teach clients how to train in a way that is going to be most effective in rebuilding strength and muscle.

Multiple Sclerosis (15+ years): Learning to stand independently!
Part 1 - we built the foundations (improving brain-body communication) so Judy now has improved connection and control over her muscles despite many years of MS progression. After ticking these boxes, Judy and Luke have been able to move to Part 2 - relying less on the electrical stimulation and teaching Judy how to use her muscles effectively again. Our goal with Multiple Sclerosis clients is not to rely on

Functional Neurological Disorder FAQ: What Happens When I Go Home? Maintaining results with FND
Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) Maintaining Results
One of the most common questions we get asked is “what happens when I go home?”
Understanding triggers is key to developing appropriate strategies to maintain the results we achieve with FND. Building in maintenance strategies that don’t need our input, such as specific types of training and in some cases using a home e-stim device puts the power back into our clients hands. We don’t want anyone to rely on us!
