Multiple Sclerosis: Building Strength
After improving the ability to contract and control the muscles in the clinic, we transition into the gym to teach Rhyiza the machines and techniques to build muscle and strength at home. Our approach is like a relay race. We do the ‘heavy lifting’ to start the race - getting the brain and body to communicate more effectively. At a certain point, we can pass the baton to the client to build on this work at home (usually via our Remote programme) utilising the gym to build strength.
Building strength and muscle takes time and consistency, so our job is to pass on the knowledge for the client to go away and do the work. This is about sustaining progress and building in strategies so that clients are not reliant on us. With degenerative conditions, autonomy and education is key.
