WATCH: Motor Neuone Disease (upper limb) 3 Day Intensive breakdown
Arm weakness: Danny’s Motor Neurone Disease primarily affects his upper limbs, including his arms, shoulders, posture and hands. We use electrical stimulation to improve the communication between the brain and the upper body, including the biceps and shoulders to help with lifting.
Fine motor (hands and fingers):
Laura uses a glove delivering specific stimulation to precisely stimulate small muscles and areas in the hands and fingers to help Danny with fine motor movements, pinching and dexterity, clients with MND/ALS often begin to experience curling in the fingers which can make fine movements and holding objects harder.
Posture:
Danny had noticed some discomfort in his back and upper body rounding, Laura is helping minimise this by opening up the chest and bringing the shoulders into better alignment - Danny will continue this work at home on our remote programme with e-stim and training.
Wrists strength and control:
Danny and Laura work on his wrist strength to aid in rotation of his hands.
