Functional Neurological Disorder: learning to use stairs again.
Ellie came to us dependent on a wheelchair, experiencing multiple non epileptic seizures every day. Her FND severely impacted her ability to walk, but after some time together (see more of Ellie’s FND recovery journey on our instagram @apexneuro) she was able to walk using a cane, and we began working on re-learning how to use stairs.
Learning to use the stairs was done without help from electrical stimulation (previously we have utilised our specific method for FND, accompanies by Neubie therapy and low level lasers, which help Ellie with recovery after seizures). At this stage, she is achieving this on her own without using the e-stim.
Our goal for all FND clients is to not rely on the electrical stimulation (or us!) with time.
As Ellie lives at the top of 17 stairs, this is a huge focus for her independence!
