Transverse Myelitis - Improving Walking, Proprioception and Feeling | Intensive Neurological Rehab for TM
See Nikita’s BEFORE and AFTER at the end! During Nikita’s intro at APEX NEURO, Luke kicked off their work together with a strong start, with Nikita completing laps of the clinic - but the walking still needed a little more fluidity and there was work to be done to improve connection with the muscles in her body. So during her two-day intensive a month later, Luke works on exactly that. Using an electrical current, they begin to improve Nikita’s sensation and ‘connection’ with her feet - which are key to the brain knowing where the body is in space. The water disperses the electrical current, allowing it to cover a larger surface area and stimulate the vast network of nerves in her feet to enhance sensory feedback. Before, Nikita would feel unsteady when looking around - but as she checks the corners of the room, she feels very stable. Most importantly, they are able to move onto walking and using the stairs without any help from the electrical current (this is crucial to the philosophy of how we work). With improved steadiness and sensation, you can see how well this translates into her walking. Lapping the clinic with good clearance of the floor, at a high speed, with good fluidity - it’s hard to ask for more than that!
