Motor Neurone Disease: Using stairs and stability

Is it possible to improve stability to use stairs again confidently with Motor Neurone Disease?

Fiona (diagnosed with MND/ALS) was experiencing weakness in her legs, particularly being able to lift to take large steps or use stairs. She noticed they were shaking more than usual and fatigued quickly (see video below).

Using direct current stimulation, Rob and Fiona first improve her ability to lift the leg and maintain stability, then move onto practicing this using the stairs —- “LOOK AT HER GO, LOOK AT HER GO”.  The smile on her face says it all.

Her neurologist had told her she would need a wheelchair by now - here we are defying those odds!

Fiona works with us intensively around every 4-6 months, and the rest of the year she spends keeping up with her training and nutrition. This is a team effort - we give Fiona a ‘boost’ and work on any changes, then she keeps up this work between visits.
