Stroke Recovery - Regaining Control in the Hands & Arms
Following a stroke, Mark is working with Luke to improve control in his upper body, including his wrists, arm flexion, dexterity, grip and hand function. Mark needs more control in biceps to have full range of motion in his arms, as well as control in the wrists. Due to the Stroke, one bicep is taking over slightly and pulling his arm towards his chest, rather than towards his shoulder.
Mark often finds he sits with it in a bent position. Luke coaches to make sure that Mark’s engaging the right muscles when practicing and working with the e-stim, which he does at home between his weekly appointments. Standing up, pulling the wrist to the right place, even looking forward - Luke catches small habits that impact Mark without him realising, now they’re at a point where Luke doesn’t even have to use words - he can point and remind Mark to look ahead.
Mark’s progressed to be able to perform multiple bicep curls (important for daily movements) - first sat, then seated, then with resistance. This is a great indicator for the strength he’s regaining.
