Sebastian visited us from France for a 5 day Multiple Sclerosis intensive rehabilitation programme after MS progression started to impact his walking and ability to use the stairs. He had begun using a crutch for support during walking and generating power and stability using stairs was becoming extremely difficult.
By day 5, Luke and Sebastian had made huge progress resolving drop foot and improving Sebastian’s ability to lift his toes and foot, and improving gait and stability during walking unaided, so moved onto stair rehab.
Most of this video shows Sebastian using the stairs without any support from the electrical current with just the occasional “boost” to help lift his foot to clear the stair. Luke is coaching him through how to use his muscles correctly during each part of the movement pattern. We ultimately don’t want our Multiple Sclerosis clients to rely on the electrical stimulation so re-learning these mechanics are important.
His family who joined him from France were able to watch him using the stairs independently for the first time in a long time, and we had a few happy tears!
