Multiple Sclerosis - Standing For Over 16 Minutes…working towards dancing again and playing darts! 🎯

From standing for a minute (maximum) to over quarter of an hour 🏆 Paul travelled from Belgium for a 5-day intensive at APEX NEURO. Relying on mobility aids like a walker or a chair, he could stand comfortably for 20-30 seconds, having to sit down at a minute. He shared that he plays darts at home, using a walker for stability, but was struggling recently to stay stable (watch to the end to see how his dart-throwing looks now!) Rob had completed foundational work using e-stim to help improvement the engagement of Paul’s muscles and reduce through spasticity. Paul is given small adjustments to help him stand with more stability, like engaging the glutes to push himself forward. You can see how well Paul applies the feedback and the immediate difference it can make.

On the first day of standing practice, Paul had stood for 10 minutes. On this day, he comfortably stood for over 16 minutes. Paul’s not only stood - but stood comfortably. A lot of time, understandably, our clients feel nervous about standing for long periods, and often their bodies tense up and breathing changes. Paul makes this difficult task look like light work - throwing in disco moves and practicing his darts. This is a great sign - being calm and confident is what we are working towards for our clients. Between his 5 day appointments, Paul had already started implementing his work at APEX NEURO into his life - shaving and brushing his teeth stood up, after just one day.
