Multiple Sclerosis - The difference in standing in less than an hour at APEX NEURO
After a lot of work with the electrical stimulation working on improvement muscle engagement and control, Luke and Lynlie are ready to turn their attention to standing. This is the next step in our goal to help Lynlie, who is usually dependent on a wheelchair, towards standing and walking.
Initially, Luke is helping Lynlie more as she gets used to the movements, improving the muscle engagement which helps her drive up, and stabilise when stood. As they practice he is slowly able to reduce the amount he helps, and Lynlie is able to generate more power - including bringing her body into an upright position. As Luke can see Lynlie is starting to get tired (this is hard work!) they have a simple fix: rest, then try again.
After a break and some work using the e-stim, just 30mins later Lynlie is much more fluid and powerful in the movement. This is exactly the kind of progress we love to see!
