Multiple Sclerosis: Walking Poles to Walking Unaided

From walking poles to unaided 🏆
When Nat first visited APEX NEURO, our main focus was improving her walking using her walking poles after her mobility had been declining due to Multiple Sclerosis.
This time, our focus turns to a big goal - walking unaided! First Rob and Nat break through spasticity, which has been restricting her ability to engage specific muscles. Once this is reduced, Nat can better control the muscle recruitment, which will benefit her walking. As it’s been some time since Nat walked unaided, there is a lot of fear and her body has a tendency to tense up (we see this often!) but Rob and Nat work on building the confidence to take steps without any aid.
At first her steps are narrow and her feet want to stick to the floor, but with practice she starts getting longer, more fluid strides and better clearance. This is a big step in trusting her body again!
