Multiple Sclerosis - Ireland to England for Intensive Rehab Gillian has been working hard at home in Ireland following on from her last visit to us, revisiting the clinic to work with Laura, focusing on some specific weaknesses further that impact her walking. Laura focuses on the areas that need more attention - our sessions are all about adapting to what the practitioners assess the client needs as they progress and change. For Gillian, a major area was the quads, an important muscle for walking and stability, which has proven a more ‘stubborn’ area to support at home.
Having used e-stim to work through spasticity and improve Gillian’s muscle response and control, they progressed to Gillian’s walking. Walking is the most common area we work on - our ultimate goal is to reach a point without any reliance on the electric.
As Gillian begins walking, Laura observes that Gillian’s glutes need some additional support — observing and adapting is key to getting the most progress possible! We see good improvement in Gillian’s walking, particularly in the fluidity and tempo. At first, she’s lightly using the wall to help with stability, but notice her get less and less reliant on it as the week continues. Gillian will now continue this work!
