Multiple Sclerosis - Spasticity & Strength
Multiple Sclerosis - Reducing Spasticity & Building Strength
Spasticity is one of the most common Multiple Sclerosis symptoms our team works with. Spasticity can significantly limit range of motion and the ability to engage the muscles, as well as often causing a lot of discomfort and challenge in day to day movement. With spasticity reduced, the rest of our work becomes a lot easier. You’ll see our team working to reduce spasticity on many of our videos for this reason. Clients often have greater muscle control that we ‘uncover’ when the spasticity isn’t acting as a barrier.
Spasticity: one of the most common Multiple Sclerosis symptoms APEX NEURO works with Many of our clients have tried pharmaceutical interventions with limited success, and this especially common in clients who have had HSCT therapy, who can experience an increase in spasticity, clonus and muscle tone. We see substantial improvement both in the clinic utilising the Neubie (Direct Current therapy) as the UK's first and most experienced practitioners, and at home via our Remote programme (https://www.apexneuro.co.uk/remote). Using Direct Current we are able to help clients manage and regain control over movement without the limitations of spasticity. For our Remote Support Programme (a first of its kind programme created specifically for degenerative conditions) we utilise a handheld device (smaller than a phone) that can be easily set up and used in any location. Our goal? Redefine what is possible for individuals diagnosed with all types of Multiple Sclerosis and stop spasticity impacting day to day life!
Many of our clients experience increased spasticity following HSCT treatments (this is not true for all of them, but an interesting through-line for many people who contact us). Often, the spasticity presents as muscle locking or extreme stiffness, but can also present as jerking movements and spasms. We support clients with spasticity by working together in the clinic using Direct Current to reduce the spasticity and muscle tightness, and often utilise our Remote Support programme, with clients reporting the ability to reduce spasticity at home, including at night, for more restful sleep.
