Multiple Sclerosis - Why is training so important? Using the gym in Multiple Sclerosis Rehabilitation
When working with conditions that are as complex as Multiple Sclerosis - you need lots of tools in the toolbox. 🧰🔧 The electrical stimulation (delivered by the Neubie machine commonly featured in our videos that helps deliver a specific type of electrical current) is one part of the approach - primarily to help improve muscle engagement and control. However, this is just one part of a bigger picture. For many people, loss of strength, and sometimes muscle atrophy (reduction in muscle mass) are common with degenerative conditions. Over time, this affects mobility and day to day function.
Alongside improving the communication between the brain and the body with help from electrical stimulation, we also work towards building and maintaining muscle mass and strength using specific types of training. This isn’t just important to the work in the clinic, it is an actionable change for the work clients continue at home. Muscle takes time and repetition to build - so giving clients the confidence to use the gym in the most effective way for them is so important to long-term change.
